Sunday  1st August 2021 - Arenig Fawr and Moel Llyfnant

Meet at the Abbey at 08:15, or at the walk start at 09:45. We will start from the parking area at SH 816395, which is just on the B4391 Festiniog road as it branches off the A4212 west of Bala. Suggested route from Shrewsbury is through Knockin, over Llynclys crossroads, past Llangynog to Bala, and keep going northwest on A4212. There are toilets about 3 miles before the start, at the western end of Llyn Celyn. Travel distance about 54 miles; around 1hr 30min including loo stop.

Car sharing is now an option, but not obligatory. If you wish to go directly to the start point, please inform the walk leader before the day of the walk, either by text, or preferably by email. Also let me know if you're going to the Abbey.

The walk takes us along a quiet road for 30 minutes past Arenig hamlet, onto a track up to Llyn Arenig Fawr, and then to the top of Arenig Fawr itself (854m/2802ft). There are superb views all round, and even more as we descend and traverse across to the quiet summit of Moel Llyfnant before the easy return.

Total walk distance is around 11 miles, with 3000 feet of climbing. We are on mostly decent tracks, and the climbs are fairly gradual; a few rocky bits but no exposure (and no bracken to wade through). Should be around 6 hours walking.

       Walk leader: John Ellerslie, john.ellerslie@btinternet.com or landline 01743 360115 or mobile/text 07490 272286.
