12th January 2020 - Llanymynech
A grade C walk of about 11 miles (with over 2,000 ft
ascent) starting from SJ 2666 2111.
The route will follow the Offa’s Dyke Path to ascend
through Pen y Foel, past the Welsh quarry and Llanymynech Rocks
(Montgomery Wildlife Trust). Using the ODP over Llanymynech Hill and
other paths to cross Llynclys Common (Shropshire Wildlife Trust) before
descending to the A495. The walk will go around the North side of
Llynclys and Nant Mawr quarries to reach Moelydd (935feet).
The return route is through Shropshire Wildlife Trusts' area known as
"Jones Rough" to join quiet lanes down to Porth-y-waen and join
the ODP through Jones Coppice to climb back up the escarpment. The path
around the outskirts of the golf course is taken allowing for extensive
views from the top of Llanymynech rocks before descending the English
incline plane to reach the Limeworks Industrial Heritage area.
