Sunday 22nd September 2019 - Bishop's Castle to Clun

To celebrate the completion of the new 200 mile figure of eight route the Shropshire Way Association has organised a week long festival of 26 walks led by Shropshire based walking groups.  Our Club's contribution to this Festival is to walk Stage 3 of the Way from Bishop's Castle to Clun - a scenic 11.5 miles starting from BC town centre and heading south west towards Colebatch before turning north west to Middle Woodbatch and Reilth Top.  The route then goes west to Churchtown where it joins the Offa's Dyke Path for a stretch to Hergan hill.  Parting company with the national trail at this point we'll go south east for the wonderful descent along the Cefns then follow the river Clun to the town of the same name where we plan to finish with a toast to the Way in one of the pubs.  We'll clock up almost 2000 feet of ascent as the route undulates through varied terrain (all pretty good) with very little tarmac!  You'll be rewarded with some of the best views to be had in the county if the weather is kind to us.  Hope you can join us.

To facilitate the linear nature of this walk, one car will be parked in Clun before the walk starts and the driver will return the other drivers to BC at the end to collect their cars whilst the rest of the walkers enjoy refreshments in Clun.  All walkers will contribute equally to our usual car sharing costs.
