Sunday 28th June  - Carnedd Llewelyn and W. Carneddau

Distance: 11 miles with a total of 4020’ of ascent.

Meet at the Abbey at 08.00. Walk start: 10.00’ish. Parking on roadside near Glan Dena - SH 669 605, postcode LL57 3LZ.

Distance to start: 73miles. Journey time: 115 minutes.  No toilet at the starting point but there is one a short drive away and there is also the opportunity to visit one, en-route.

The circular walk will take us north, through Tal Y Lyn Ogwen, to follow the Afon Lloer, before heading west, to visit Pen yr Ole Wen (3209’), where we will take the time to roam around the edges, to take in the views, Carnedd Dafydd (3425’), Yr Elen (3156’), Carnedd Llewelyn (3491’), before dropping down to Pen yr Helgi Du (2733’) and a fairly gentle, knee saving descent back to the A5, which we cross for an easy path back to the cars.

The route provides some outstanding views, weather permitting. It’s a steady climb up, with one scrambling section. It then stays sort of level’ish until we start the descent, which will include one down and one up scramble. While not to be dismissed, none of the scrambles are particularly difficult or ‘hairy’. As a novice scrambler myself, I certainly wasn’t unduly troubled by them, in admittedly, dry conditions.
