Sunday 30th April 2017 - Rhinogydd

Starting at SH684302, we will head into the Bwlch Drws Ardudwy and then steeply up onto Rhinog Fach. Then there's a pleasant descent past Llyn Hywel and back into the Bwlch before a tough and rocky ascent to Rhinog Fawr, returning via Llyn Du.

The Rhinogydd are rough and quiet hills, not often visited; and the route I've selected is a rocky, scrambly one. For this reason, it's been regraded as an 'A' walk: there's no technically difficult or especially exposed scrambling, but it is hands-on at times. Strong boots required, and perhaps long trousers because of the first climb through scratchy heather. The reward for all this effort should be magnificent views and a terrain full of interest. The distance is roughly 10 miles, and it's a roughly a figure-of-eight as well, as befits our 80th year. It will probably take around 7-8 hours to do.
