17th February - Ludlow
The start point is at SO 505742
by Whitcliffe Common with probably the best view of Ludlow. The
walk is graded B purely because it's 13 miles, a mile over the limit
for a C walk. The route follows good footpaths through woods and
forest, across farmland and on a couple of stretches of tarmac.
The 2300 feet of ascent is gained by longer gradual gradients - there
are no steep ones. The route ascends south west into Mortimer
Forest to Mary Knoll House and on through Hazel Coppice to Burrington
village where the Herefordshire Trail is joined to go south and east to
Elton. We'll then rejoin the Mortimer Trail to go north to the
high point at High Vinnals and return to the start point via Mary Knoll
Valley and Lower and Upper Evens. It's not all trees and the
views from the open ground will give lovely far reaching views.
