22nd October 2017 - Cadair Idris
in the layby at SH752135, we head down to the main Minffordd car park
(toilets available), then steeply up steps into Cwm Cau. Then another
climb up to the rim of the Cym, which we follow round to the top of
Cadair Idris at 893m. The return is somewhat longer, over Mynydd Moel
first and then down through the intricacies of Gau Craig, before a
final boggy section through the valley and back to the layby. Total
distance around 10 miles, ascent about 3000 ft. It's tough going in
places, so probably 7 hours or so.
Cadair Idis isn't the highest mountain, but it is full of interest, and
on a good day the views over the Mawddach estuary and the Rhinogs to
the north are magnificent.
