Sunday 8th May 2016 - Snowdon Horseshoe

This is the classic walk of Snowdonia.  Despite its seemingly moderate length of 11 km (6¾ miles) it is a very strenuous walk and one that requires a very good head for heights and some scrambling ability.  The ascent up to Crib Goch and its crossing should only be attempted in conditions of low wind and relative dryness.  If conditions are not suitable we will take the Pyg track instead.   Starting point is  Pen-y-pass (SH647555) or from near the Pen-y-Gwryd Hotel if no parking is left at Pen-y-pass (adding an extra 3km (2 miles) to the walk. After crossing Crib Goch we reach Carnedd Ugain and then Snowdon summit. A descent is made to Bwlch-y-Saethau and then a partly scrambling ascent to the summit of Y Lliwedd.  The descent to Llyn  Llydaw joins the Miners’ track back to Pen-y-pass.

    11 kilometres (6¾ miles)  Ascent 1,110 metres (3,640 feet)
