Sunday 5th July 2015 - Moel Penamnen
This is a walk of some 16 miles through varied
scenery and over a range of paths. Starting from the attractive Quarry
Village of Cwm Penmachno we pass through an enclosure of vocal hens
before a brief but steep ascent alongside a plantation. Part way up we
follow a faint track to the west before heading roughly north to the
summit of Y Ro Wen. From here a clear track is followed down to
A track close to the railway leads to Bertheos from
where the ascent to Moel Penamnen commences. Dropping down we proceed
west to Llynnau Ballwyd Resevoir with its impressive stone dam and then
head south along a good track before turning east towards the remains
of quarries. The last few miles are easy walking utilising both Railway
and Inclines (Disused).
Earlier in June the puddles in the cuttings were alive with large tadpoles.
