Sunday 9th August 2015 - Llangollen Round part 2

The Llangollen Round is a 33 mile waymarked route around the hills of the Llangollen Valley.  It was devised some years ago by the local Cancer Research UK support group, who organise a challenge walk each year.  It's a superb route offering outstanding views across all the neighbouring hills and mountains.  We've chosen to lead the entire walk over two consecutive Sundays at a time when the heather will be looking and smelling good.

Part 2 starts with a bus ride from Trevor to Llidart-y-Parc on the A5, the finish point of last week's walk.  The 15 mile route on the south side of the A5 starts with an ascent through a forest onto open moorland and onwards to the summit of Moel Fferna (630 metres) where we hope to be rewarded with 360 degree views.  We then walk east to the summit of Vivod and continue on a line more or less parallel with the Llangollen Valley.  The first half of the Round is in our sights for much of the time.  After a section of road, the route descends to the village of Froncysyllte and from there it's over the aquaduct (which can be avoided if anyone doesn't like the airy walk!) and back to the cars in Trevor.
