August 2015 - Llangollen Round part 1
The Llangollen Round is a 33 mile waymarked
route around the hills of the Llangollen Valley. It was devised some
years ago by the local Cancer Research UK support group, who organise a
challenge walk each year. It’s a superb walk offering outstanding
views across all the neighbouring hills and mountains. We’ve
chosen to lead the entire walk over two consecutive Sundays at a time
when the heather will be looking and smelling good.
Part 1, a bit longer than Part 2, is 18 miles on the north
side of the A5 starting at Trevor and walking up through Trevor Woods
on the Offa’s Dyke Path, above Trevor and Eglwyseg Rocks to cross
the Horseshoe Pass at the Ponderosa cafe. The route then
continues over the 4 peaks of Llantysilio Mountain before descending to
Carrog and Llidart-y-Parc (on the A5) from where we’ll catch the bus
back to Trevor (£2.80 fare).
a great day out but don’t expect to be back in Shrewsbury much before
