28th June - Bāl Mawr
The hallmarks of this walk are the north-south ridges, and the area is
generally known as the Black Mountains. The walk starts near
Llanvihangel Crucorney, and will proceed northwards over Hatterall
Hill; then go down into Llanthony, which is dominated by its ruined
abbey (Norman, parts Early English).
After this, there is a sharp climb out of the valley
and up to Bāl Mawr (607m, 1992 ft); after which we return south to
complete the route.
